When selecting keywords to target on your website, which factors do you consider?

You can look at.

Search volume
Query Intent (this will be a potential customer Searcher)
But another factor you have to consider that the more difficult it will be called that word.

After all, there is no point targeting a high volume keyword, if you have very little chance of breaking into the first page of Google- in.

So how do you determine how much it will be difficult to capture that word.

It's easy! You use the keyword difficulty score Ahrefs keywords Explorer.

Step 1: Enter a seed keyword Into Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer
Put the main keyword you are targeting as into the search box and click "Explore. Select 'phrase match' to ensure accurate results include the word.

Step 2. Review Keyword Difficulty score of each word
We can see that each product we have a number of columns. including search volume (volume) and in terms of difficulty score (x).

The higher the score the difficulty of words, it will be difficult to call this statement for best results.

How Many Backlinks Required to consider each KD.
From analyzing the best results across millions of keywords, Ahrefs found in the average number of domains required for connecting each KD is as follows:

Referring Domains

KD 0 = 0 reference. Domains
KD 10 = 10 link. Domains
KD 20 = 22
KD 30 = 36
KD 40 = 56
KD 50 = 84
KD 60 = 129
KD 70 = 202
KD 80 = 353
KD 90 = 756

So your content word for the title of best positioned to KD 60, it likely requires 129 backlinks from different places. Depending on your site, you may find this difficult.

But, on the other hand, a 10-KD account should only require 10 links to rank websites. Much easier.

How do you determine the most "Difficulty rating You need to be Target.

Again, Ahrefs can help.

Enter your domain into Ahrefs Site Explorer and click on the "Pages"> "Best Links".

This will give you an indication of the number of backlinks to your best pages on the site, are likely to attract.

Keywords Explorer

In this case, we can see that the top pages have between 50 and 60 backlinks.

Which means that we should aim to target keywords with a difficulty score of 0 and 40 to the top ranking of the top positions.

Let's run our keyword search again, but this time we will use a filter to show only the scores between 0 to 40.

Site Explorer

We now know which keywords give us the best chance high and may take into account other factors (volume, query intent) to our final decision.

When the target Higher KD Keywords

KD account is a good guide to use when selecting keywords to target, however.

The longer the tail (= less volume) of the word, the more likely it will be that you could rank as less backlinks.

Because of the long tail keywords with less competition, you can capture high-KD keywords, if you can create the best available content for the search phrase.

And regardless of the complexity of creating the best available content is always the best practice.
